Hey everybody! In case you missed the news, my laptop power adapter stopped working while I was traversing the country enroute to my new duty station. I’m in place now but my new adapter hasn’t been delivered yet, which means I’m stuck writing blog posts on my phone. Yuck.
Because of that I won’t be writing any long posts for now, but in the meantime I’ve decided to do mini blog posts on topics of your choice. So if you have a question for me or want a quick-and-dirty explanation of anything, drop a comment below. If I get enough suggestions, maybe I’ll post every day in July! Just understand they’ll be short posts, lol. Not long ones.
And now for today’s mini post…
Financially Optimistic Millennials Aspire to be Millionaires, Retire Early
Most of my readers are Millennials, so I thought you might be interested in this article reviewing a TD Ameritrade survey of Millennials and how they feel about their finances.
I’m not particularly surprised by these results, but that’s probably because a lot of them fit my current lifestyle. I’m not married, I don’t have kids, and I expect to retire early – just like many of the respondents. And while I have owned a primary home in the past, currently I only have a rental property.
I am a little bit concerned about the fact that on average they said they don’t plan to start saving for retirement until age 36. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve already started saving for retirement. That’s great! Maybe you should talk to your friends and convince them to do so too. The earlier you start the less you have to save to end up with the same results. Or you can save a lot and retire early!
What do you think? Are these results surprising, or in line with what you’d expect to see?

Writing posts on your phone sounds hard! Angela at Tread Lightly, Retire early says that is how she writes all her posts. I think it would drive me crazy.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on what it’s like managing a rental far from where you live. At least I assume it is!

Yeah, Angela may be crazy 😂
Mini post on its way!

Good luck on the PCS and new duty station!

Thanks!

Yikes, I hope every one starts saving for retirement before age 36. Even if it’s not much, the compound interest over the decade if you start in your 20s is really hard to make up for losing (or at least that’s what I tell myself now while I’m not in a place to be maxing out my contributions but still at least saving!).

Some people are not lucky enough to be as naturally smart as you are.

Yikes to not starting to save for retirement until 36! Funny what the PF online bubble does to you – I’ve been feeling super behind because I was just coasting until this past year, even with some savings / passive income.
MilitaryDollar says
Yeah our bubble sure does shift perspectives 🤣
