These BFFs Built a Tiny House Neighborhood So They Could All Live Right Next to Each Other

Country Living

I know the idea of communal living isn’t for everyone, but this is pretty cool. Four separate houses, each belonging to a couple. Then a big common area with a kitchen and living space.

I’ve been looking at the cohousing idea for a while. There are variations on the theme – living in a single building, taking over an entire neighborhood, having a large property with multiple residences (like this one). If you want to find out more, here are some additional resources:

  • Battling cost of living? Seeking a community? A look at the cohousing lifestyle.
  • Why DC Residents are Moving to Cohousing Communities

Don’t worry. As several of these articles point out, this isn’t about living on a hippie commune. 😉

Questions and Answers about Changes to TSP Withdrawal Options

Thrift Savings Plan

For those of you with a TSP account, this is big news. The TSP Modernization Act of 2017 promised a bunch of changes that would make the TSP easier to withdraw from in retirement. This is huge, because while the TSP in general is pretty great, the withdrawal options until now kinda…sucked. Big time.

The new policies, which will go into effect probably in September 2019 (planned implementation) include the following:

  • You will be able to make multiple age-based in-service or post-separation partial withdrawals. The old rules limited it to one.
  • You will be able to withdraw from your Roth account, your Traditional account, or a proportional mix. Before you could only do the proportional mix. This was not good for tax purposes!
  • Instead of only choosing monthly payments, you will be able to choose quarterly or annual payments. You’ll also be able to change these payments at any time, instead of just the annual 2.5 month open season.

Go Curry Cracker – June 4, 2018

Are you familiar with Go Curry Cracker? If not, I highly suggest checking out this website. If the thought of cheap/free travel is appealing, especially long term travel, this is the place to look.

And speaking of travel, the site has a trip planning page to help you do exactly that! Want to see how they figure out the best flight or train travel prices? It’s here. How about things to consider when booking a hotel or other lodging? Yep, that’s here too.
