Hacking My Half-Million Dollar House
Frugally Reckless – November 9, 2017
I think Adventurer is selling herself short in this post. She says her financial gain from renting part of her house on AirBnB is $7100 over the year this post covers. The reality is, the AirBnB covered all of the mortgage principal, interest, taxes, insurance, and gave her $1200 cash flow! That reduced her living expenses by over $29,000 plus gave her extra money. That’s pretty cool!
I don’t think I could stand having strangers in my main house, but I have thought about getting a place with an attached suite. That would work!
How I Became A Millionaire Working For The Government
Budgets Are Sexy – February 16, 2018
A lot of stories about becoming a millionaire focus on one thing that led to success. A brilliant business idea, or a smart investing move. This one has it all: diligent investing, paying off a property, getting raises, marrying someone on the same page financially.
Why is that important? Because it’s very rarely one or two things that lead to success. Instead, it’s a lifetime of incremental steps that move you forward.
Our “High School Rule” for Work in Early Retirement
Our Next Life – January 17, 2018
A common complaint by what we in the FIRE community call the “Retirement Police” is that if you get paid for any work at any time in retirement, then you aren’t retired. Which is kind of silly when you think about it. If my parents work one weekend for a friend, are they really any less retired? Of course not.
Tanja at Our Next Life addresses this by establishing their rules for working in retirement. If they’d do it for free, no problem!

Thanks for sharing! Hopefully it inspires others to get creative with their own housing 🙂 and I agree, getting paid to live in my house was an awesome financial perk.
