An Interactive Guide to Early Retirement and Financial Independence

Minafi Blog – September 2, 2017

Okay, bear with me here. I know a lot of people think the FIRE movement is a whack-a-doodle idea. And those of you that think that probably think I talk about it too much. But give this stellar interactive post a chance. From the post:

My request for you: Don’t assume financial independence means retirement.”

I know plenty of people who say “I could never imagine retiring. I’d be so bored!” Well, FIRE doesn’t mean you have to sit on your couch watching daytime soap operas. It just means you have options. And this post is there to show you just how many options you have.

It is a long, choose-your-own-adventure type experience, so sit down with a nice mug of coffee and spend some time with it. There are also links to a bunch of other resources and other people in the FIRE community. Seriously. Give it a try.

The Truth About Stock Market Returns

Maximize Your Money – September 4, 2017

There is a lot of talk out there about reasonable expectations for investment returns. There is also a lot of “But in 1967….!” that people use to justify why they aren’t following the conventional wisdom.

The fact is, investment returns can swing wildly year to year, but are fairly steady over time. Because of that, there is some pretty standard advice that basically everybody should follow. Make a plan. Stay the course. Make adjustments as necessary to get back in line, but don’t make huge and unplanned movements.

Effective But Semi-Illegal Ways To Pay Off Student Loans

The Frugal Gene – September 4, 2017

And finally, this funny, not serious, do not do what’s recommended here take on student loan payoff.

If you still owe money on your student loans, you might appreciate this. Oh, the things people will do for money.

Seriously though. Even the author has a disclaimer saying you shouldn’t do these things. It’s just a fun read for a Sunday. Satire, folks.
