Frustrated That Your Friends and Family Aren’t Interested in Investing? Read This!
Bigger Pockets – July 21, 2017
I’m sure I’ve been a pain in the butt the last few years. I’m sure that proselytizing this goal almost religiously to family, friends, and colleagues has been annoying. I’ve stopped doing that.”
I get super excited when people around me start talking about finance. I think I may have scared a coworker the other day who made the mistake of mentioning that he wanted to retire from the military at “20 years and 1 day” and then get a McDonald’s/Walmart type job. He didn’t really want to work, he just didn’t think he’d have enough money. I instantly said “I can help with that!”
Yeah…he changed the subject pretty quick.
This is not a new phenomenon, of course. For years I’ve had friends who both wondered how I was able to save so much money, and simultaneously didn’t want to know. And while I’d love to talk about it with them more, many don’t want to listen. This article was a good reminder to not overwhelm my friends and family with my excitement.
Are You Ready For The Next Stock Market Storm?
Asset Builder – July 17, 2017
But storms will hit the markets. Winning streaks don’t last forever. The question is, will you be ready for the stock market storm?”
If you pay attention to finance news, you know there’s been a lot of talk lately about a coming dip in the market. Nobody knows for sure when it will happen, or if it will be a small correction, a bear market, or a full on recession. There are arguments for all of those things.
The one thing that is certain is that the market will eventually head south again. It always does. It basically has to. While the market still has upward potential, it often gets ahead of reality and needs to calm down a bit.
How have you prepared for this inevitability? Are you monitoring prices? Have you ensured you are well diversified? Are you looking at other possible investments outside the stock market?
15 Cheapest Places to Retire Abroad in 2017
Many developing countries have quickly become middle income, turning them into paradise retirement destinations that are both affordable and beautiful. On the other side, thanks to economic downturns of the last decade, you can find affordable homes in ancient Europe to spend your retirement years as well.”
Every couple of months, an article like this one comes out and I spend a few minutes thinking about where I will live when I retire. I don’t plan to become a full time expat – living in the US is too great to give it up completely! But if I can live overseas for 1-3 months each year, that sounds pretty fantastic to me.
My favorites on this list?
- Malta (I’d never even considered it!)
- Spain (European living for that price? Yes please)
- Ecuador (Cuenca is always on these lists. Huge expat community and what sounds like a wonderful town)
